I've Been A Writer Since Before I Could Walk

I’ve been a writer since before I could walk. I was lucky enough to have an antique black manual typewriter and cranked out many a story with it. No-one has ever seen those stories, but they are still close to my heart.
I didn’t pursue writing as a career even though it was my passion. Made even more so after watching All the President’s Men. I went into administrative, managerial work because I was a good typist, loved files and paper, pens and anything office supply related.
I didn’t trust myself enough to become a writer. My parents didn’t trust that I was good enough to survive on my words alone.
Still, I was able to become company editor for many newspapers, learned to write with more skill and learned a lot of proofreading techniques. So much so that now I can’t read anything without proofing it!
It is true, you know, that when you proof your own work, you see what you want to see. If I were to instruct you on anything, it would be to have someone read what you wrote. They don’t have to like your content, but they have to proof it for grammatical errors, spelling, missed words, etc. Yes, I use Grammarly but it still misses something once in a while.
Rascal Flatts sings a song called “God blessed the broken road” and I truly believe I was blessed by taking that broken road. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I get a paycheck every two weeks AND I get to write. Just because the blog is for a company website, I still get to blog about tons of things. Things that I have never thought about, places I’ve never been, and people I’ve never met. But it truly is my passion, and I’m lucky to have fallen into this job.
I have a lot of creative freedom to write, research and comment on other blogs, as well as write on a personal blog.
Don’t say you can’t write. You absolutely can. Whether you choose to share it with other people is your business. I won’t judge you. And if we become friends, maybe I’ll share some of those old stories with you (or even better, my weird poetry!)
